February 25, 2013 Meeting Notes
Our meeting opened with President Tim presiding. Our greeter was Suzie Gemignani, the pledge was led by Ralph Andersson, John Voter gave the thought for the day, and Fred Claessens was our photographer. Jon Peek assisted the Sergeant-At-Arms.
Guests: Dennis Burbridge brought his brother Bob as his guest.
Announcements:
- Anita Daniels announced that the speech contest is right around the corner and we still need people to volunteer to be judges.
- Jan Friend announced that the date set for the speech contest in March 11th.
- Lori Burkart-Frank is collecting bras and lingerie used to support a program that prevents sex slavery in Africa. The undergarments will be given to women in Africa who have been rescued from sex slavery so that they can sell them to make a living.
- Susan Fivelstad announced that she had great success collecting undergarment donations from hair salons and wanted to pass that tip along to the rest of the club.
- Ralph Andersson was recognized by President Tim for being in the paper and was fined $5 for being in the paper. The newspaper article highlighted Andersson's leadership in the quest for the best burger in Nevada County.
- John Voter could use more brown paper bags for the food bank. John was also fined $5 for clapping between the music contestants in our meeting's music contest program.
Confessions:
- Valerie Logsdon confessed to having a 24hr airplane ride. She was returning from a 23day trip to Thailand. She was fined $50 making her a bell ringer. Susan Fivelstad shared a portion of the fine with her.
- Eric Trygg confessed to taking a 14day cruise in the Australia/New Zealand area and joked about leaving early in order to miss our Casino Night fund raiser. He was fined $50 but since he was already a bell ringer, John Peplowski took the fine.
Program:
Jon Byerrum led the program which was our annual music contest. We had two fine pianists. Taking first place was McKenna Wong, a Senior at Forest Lake Christian High. McKenna wishes to pursue a career in Political Science and was accompanied by her mother and brother who was also her page turner. Second place was won by Caroline Johnson, a Junior at Nevada Union High. Caroline wishes to pursue a career in Neurology and Music Therapy and was accompanied by her mother, father, and piano teacher. Both contestants will move forward to the area music contest on April 7th.
Our meeting concluded with the four way test and our white ball/black ball raffle. No winner today...
